Exa4mind – Extreme Analytics for Mining Data spaces

The first Czech-Bavarian Supercomputing Summer School was held during the second week of September at the scenic Dlouhá Lhota estate near Prague, Czech Republic. The event was jointly organised by two leading supercomputing centres – Leibniz Supercomputing Centre and IT4Innovations National Supercomputing Center.

Students from Germany, Turkey, and the Czech Republic were participating in a dynamic programme featuring lectures and hands-on sessions that introduced the basics of modern supercomputing and data-heavy workflows across supercomputers and cloud systems. The curriculum also offered cutting-edge topics such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and data management in real-world supercomputing applications.

The EXA4MIND project was a recurring theme throughout the event. On the second day, Mohamad Hayek and Stuart Gordon from the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre presented “Supercomputing with optimum data backends”, introducing the EXA4MIND project. Jan Martinovič, the project coordinator, followed with a talk titled “LEXIS distributed computing Platform and its use cases”, highlighting the connection between the LEXIS Platform and the EXA4MIND project. Vojtěch Mlýnský from the Institute of Biophysics of the Czech Academy of Sciences delivered an online presentation on “Molecular Dynamics – an application case for automated workflows”, which was complemented by a hands-on session led by David Číž from IT4Innovations called “Automating data-heavy workflows”. The third day began with Pinar Karagöz and Ismail Hakki Toroslu from Middle East Technical University, who conducted a session titled “Basics of AI and Inference”, showcasing technologies developed within the EXA4MIND project.

The Czech-Bavarian Supercomputing Summer School was funded by the Bavarian State Chancellery through the initiative “Czech-Bavarian Exchange for Boosting Computing Innovations”.
